The Centre for Australian Foresight is involved formally and informally in many change focused initiatives. Some of these endeavours are listed below.
The FutureMakers Program empowers communities to be active participants in shaping their shared future. Building on the works of renowned community planners and futurists such as Steven Ames, Clem Bezold, Sohail Inayatullah and James Dator, FutureMakers goes beyond conventional community visioning and consultation workshops to deeply engage and activate communities in partnerships with local authorities, businesses and NGOs. Each program has access to the FutureMakers website to pool ideas and share resources. Ideal for local authority amalgamations, business and community partnerships, and NGOs wanting to make their organisations resilient, the program is delivered by professionally qualified futures researchers and facilitators. It is fun, interactive, and community oriented, while at the same time challenging participants to try out new ways of seeing the world and their place in it.
CFAF founders have served as committee members and chairs of the Australasian Node of the Millennium Project. Current co-chairs include Anita Kelleher and Chris Stewart, with Josh Floyd and Marcus Barber on committee. The Millennium Project was founded in 1996 after a three-year feasibility study with the United Nations University, Smithsonian Institution, Futures Group International, and the American Council for the UNU. It is now an independent non-profit global participatory futures research think tank.
The Asia Pacific Foresight Conference is a biennial gathering of professional futurists from around the world in the Asia Pacific region. In 2012 the CFAF founders were heavily involved in re-visioning and delivering the project and, with the organising committee, continue to steward its development. Dr. Anita Kelleher was the convenor, with Chris Stewart operational project manager, and Marcus Barber and Josh Floyd focused on program design and speaker management.
